Class Shift of Proverbs in English Indonesian Translation on The Novel Entitled “The Black Cat and Other Stories” Written by Edgar Allan Poe

Proverbs are unique metaphoric expressions, and the translator should be familiar with their meanings in both source language (SL) target (TL), keeping mind of similarities distinctions. The research aims to find out class shift it is affected translation result on novel “The Black Cat Other Stories” by Edgar Allan Poe. This study focused finding types proverbs. qualitative method uses Catford’s theory about shift. instrument collecting data used researchers was documentation. were from entitled Poe translated Noura. resulted seven novel, namely (1) adjective into verb (15%), (2) Noun (3) noun (25%), (4) adverb (10%), (5) (6) (7) (15%).
